![]() ![]() Commit to your goal and make a plan to get there. But we older writers have enough life experience to know that the simple adage- the surest way to fail is not to try-is actually a truism. All the self-doubt, the imposter syndrome, the fears, are still going to be there, hanging on your shoulders, whispering in your ear that this might never happen. Once you commit to getting that book sold, your journey begins. The only voice you will hear is your own. We ask ourselves-is my book good enough? Am I good enough? Will anyone read it? At the crux of these questions is the one we dare not say aloud-am I worthy? Truth is, you can ask the universe if you are worthy of this thing you want, but it’s not going to answer you. Fear of failure is certainly the biggest hurdle for those breaking into publishing. ![]() Every time a voice in my head said reach for the stars, I reminded myself that I am indeed very short. Breaking into publishing was a pipe dream I kept to myself. I had convinced myself that writing was a pleasurable compulsion, and it didn’t really matter if my novels ever made it to print. ![]()

![]() ![]() Juana’s time in public life was short having spent the majority of her later years in custody. There could have been a lot more about Juana in this book but I understand why there isn’t. The recounting of the death of Katherine is really moving. There are some great descriptions of certain events in Tudor history with some wonderful detail, essentially bringing the events to life. ![]() However, that being said, the deeper I got into the book, the better I liked it. My recent reading has been of more thoughtful biographies and analyses of history such as Bethany Aram’s “Juana the Mad” so Fox’s book seemed on the simplistic side. It’s not really a serious biography of these two women at all. But I have to confess, as I was reading the beginning of this book I became a little annoyed. Having read plenty of biographies of Katherine of Aragon, I wasn’t as interested in this part of the story but Fox does present Katherine in a slightly different light which is always refreshing. In the never-ending quest to discover if Juana of Castile was really mad or not, I picked up a copy of this book to read. ![]() ![]() Neff delivers a high-stakes fantasy where two unlikely allies confront a conspiracy that's even bigger and more sinister than they imagine. Night Shyamalan is adapting this as his next film. Why do authors always feel the need the kill the animals? And don’t fucking come at me with “But people died, too” bullshit. The black and white coloring and style was hard to look at, and many of the details were lost inside the panels.Īlso, the dog dying was upsetting. Maybe I’m missing some subtle allusions to moral, metaphor, or allegory, but I don’t really care. The ending was expected, but there’s no resolution/explanation whatsoever.
